Who is Greg Brophy?
I am a husband and a father. I am a farmer by profession
and training. I am a citizen legislator.
- A Family Man

I am married to Angela, my wife of 20 years. We have three
children, Megan,
Jordan, and David, ages 19, 17, and 8. We
live in Wray.
I was born in
Holyoke,
Colorado
and grew up on my family’s farm in the sandhills north of Wray,
Colorado. I Graduated from
Wray
High School
where I was a state champion wrestler and a member of the Future Farmers of
America. I then graduated in 1988 from
Colorado
State University with a degree in Animal Sciences.

My passion besides politics, farming, and family is cycling.
I would rather be out riding my bike anytime instead of playing golf.
- A Farmer
I returned to my home town of Wray
after college where I worked as a professional farm manager while operating my
own small family farm. I
grow corn,
alfalfa, beans, watermelons and wheat.
I've also been involved in the leadership of Colorado Farm
Bureau. In 1995 I competed in the American Farm Bureau discussion meet.
I was
the Young Farmer and Rancher Chairman in 1996 and a member of the State Board of
Directors.
- A State Senator for
Colorado's 1st Senate District
I was first elected to serve in the House of
Representatives in 2002. I was then
re-elected in 2004 with 74% of the vote, a larger percentage than any other
Republican in a contested race. In June 2005 I won a vacancy committee
appointment to replace Mark Hillman. In 2006 I was re-elected for my first
term in the Colorado State Senate.
I was recently elected by the Senate caucus to the position
of Assistant Minority Leader. I am currently the ranking member of the Senate Agriculture
and Natural Resources Committee, the Interim Water Committee, the Finance Committee
and Legislative Legal Services.
I have earned a reputation early in my Senate and House career as a
champion for agriculture, tort reform, life and the Second Amendment, but I may
best be known for my efforts against judicial activism.
I
have been called "one of the most conservative members of the House"
by K.C. Mason in the Sterling Journal Advocate and "a Prius driving,
bicycle riding eco freak" by one of the bloggers on Colorado Pols. In
reality, I'm just like most Coloradoans: fiercely independent and a lover
of our great outdoors.
